While the COVID-19 pandemic is nothing new or unusual, it’s a fatal respiratory syndrome and still seems to be a cureless disease.
Here, for a staunch believer in the omnipotence of Almighty Allah, the most troublesome and somewhat ‘out-of-context’ word is ‘cureless’. According to Islamic teachings, all the diseases and calamities are from Allah and no disease ever descended is cureless. If nowhere else, the cure is there in the Quran and Sunnah.
Here it’s important to note that the COVID-19 death rate is less than 14 percent (3,35,000 deaths) and around 86 percent (2,096,000) of the cases have fully recovered as of May 22, 2020.
It has been quoted in Sunan Abi Dawood – one of the six major collections of Hadith – that Allah’s last Messenger Hazrat Muhammad (Peace and blessings of Allah be upon Him) used to recite a Dua. It was meant to keep Himself safe from Korh (leprosy or Hansen’s disease), Bars, and all the worst diseases.
The Dua for being safe and secure from coronavirus disease is given in Arabic along with Urdu translation.
And here is the English translation of the same:
“O Allah (Almighty), I seek refuge in You from Bars (Safed Korh or Phuleri), insanity (madness), leprosy (Korh), and the worst of diseases."
[Sunan Abu Dawud, Hadith No. 1554]
