Dua for Wearing Clothes

Here you will learn about the Dua for wearing clothes along with reference to the Hadith where it has been taught by the Rasool (Peace and blessings of Allah be upon him).

Allah’s Rasool (PBUH) has practically taught us the way to do anything, little or big. Right from one’s birth to death, you will find a Sunnah way to do things. There is a Sahih (authentic) Hadith about the Dua for wearing clothes. You should especially perform this prayer while wearing new clothes.

Dua for Wearing Clothes:

It has been narrated in Hadith No. 4020 of Sunan Abi Daood – one of the six books of Sahih Ahadith – that whenever the Rasool (Peace and blessings of Allah be upon Him) used to wear a new piece of cloth, he used to say the name of that piece of cloth – like Kameez or Amama – and recited a prayer.

Below is the English translation of the Sunnah Dua for wearing new clothes.

“O Allah! You deserve all the praise. It is You Who enabled me wear this (piece of cloth). I beseech you for the goodness of this cloth and of the one for whom it has been made. And I come under your protection from the evil of this cloth and of the one for whom it has been made.”

Meanwhile, in the same Hadith, it has also been narrated that when the Rasool (Peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) saw anyone wearing a new piece of cloth, he prayed that it (the cloth) might get old and may Allah bless you (the person wearing) with another one.
